Admission to School
The children in our catchment area are currently admitted into our Foundation Class at the beginning of the school year in which they become five. Blackfordby School operates Leicestershire’s Common Admissions Policy so that every child will be admitted into school full-time at the beginning of the Autumn Term of the school year in which they become five i.e. have their fifth birthday between September 1st and August 31st, the following year. All children are admitted into Blackfordby School according to our Admissions Policy and our Planned Admission Number, currently 15. Parents who are considering sending their child to Blackfordby School are very welcome to visit the school, meet the staff and talk with the children. For the well being of each child, a close relationship between parents and school is of the essence. We do our utmost to create a warm and caring atmosphere within school. Prior to the term, at the beginning of which the children are admitted into the Foundation Class, our Early Years Co-ordinator together with the Nursery Nurse arrange a home visit. Shortly afterwards, the parents are invited to school for a meeting, and the children to spend a morning in their class. In order to encourage independence, we expect parents to leave their children at the gate where there is a member of staff waiting to welcome them and ensure they go to their classrooms via the main door. The parents of children in the Foundation Class are welcome to bring them into school whilst settling in. Parents are discouraged from arriving at school before 8.30 a.m. but alternatively, we have a very popular ‘Walking Bus’ which leaves from the Village Hall car park each morning at 8.30 a.m. and arrives back at the Village Hall at 3.30 p.m. At 3.15 p.m., the children are escorted to the gate and handed over to parents who wait at the top of the drive. Children are only allowed to go with other adults by prior arrangement. If parents are delayed, children return to their classroom and are supervised by staff.
