Our School

St. Margaret’s National School was opened on December 4th 1889, providing an education for children up to the age of fourteen.

In 1964, the children in Years Four, Five and Six were ‘removed’ to transfer at the end of Year Three to another school. Finally, Full Primary Status was restored in 2009, adding joy to the school’s 120th celebrations, and our first cohort of Year Four children remained at Blackfordby St. Margaret’s in September 2010. A ‘radical and contemporary’ building project is planned, to extend and modernise the school.

The building work should begin early in the New Year 2011. When the project is complete, the school’s number on roll will be 105, comprised as follows:-
  • Reception - 15
  • Years One and Year Two - 15 and 15
  • Years Three and Four - 15 and 15
  •
  • Years Five and Six - 15 and 15

The first cohort of Year Six children will transfer from Blackfordby in July 2013.
