Governors

Our Local Governing Committee

Local governance plays an important role within the RISE Multi‑Academy Trust, helping to ensure that each school remains firmly rooted in its community and that every child is supported to flourish and succeed.

At Blackfordby St Margaret’s, our Local Governing Committee (LGC) works closely with the Headteacher and senior leaders to help shape the strategic direction of the school and ensure that decisions are always made in the best interests of our pupils.

What Our Governors Do

Our governors:

  • Support and challenge school leaders
  • Promote high standards of teaching, learning and personal development
  • Monitor school performance, targets and progress
  • Ensure that the school’s vision and values are being lived out
  • Make sure all pupils — including those with special educational needs — are able to thrive
  • Represent the views and needs of parents, staff, the Trust, the church and the wider community

Governors do not manage the day‑to‑day running of the school; instead, they provide strategic oversight, thoughtful challenge and supportive partnership.

Who Our Governors Are

Our Local Governing Committee is made up of representatives from:

  • Parents
  • Staff
  • The local community
  • The Church
  • The RISE Multi‑Academy Trust

Some governors are elected, while others are appointed, ensuring we have a broad range of voices, backgrounds and skills supporting our school.

Governors bring experience from education, business, finance, pastoral care, community leadership and more — all helping to strengthen the school’s strategic leadership.

Delegated Responsibilities

Governors sit within the wider governance structure of the RISE MAT and operate under a clear Scheme of Delegation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring safeguarding, attendance and curriculum standards
  • Supporting and challenging leaders to maintain high expectations
  • Ensuring resources are used effectively
  • Upholding the Christian distinctiveness of our school
  • Acting as a link between the school, families and the community
